This Online Trade Directory Company had an immensely successful couple of years, going from strength to strength (and I'd like to think the advertising had something to do with this) before imploding under a mountain of complaints from its customers, (the trades, not the end-user consumers).

Ironically, and I suspect very much part of their downfall, the Company's stance was very much as an 'online' alternative to printed trade directories, particularly Yellow Pages, and then in 2006, went into the publishing business themselves producing local (by County) directories. Odd.

They also attacked, through their press and online advertising, the great Yellow Pages Company itself, and very aggressively.

Hardly the smartest of moves and I strongly advised them against it (you don't shout at a big lion unless you're a lot bigger or it's safely in a cage!)

So here we are. This commercial was rolled out over the Southern Counties and The Midlands (14 or 15 stations), used as their 'call-waiting' music of their telephone system, played in cinemas and at televised football matches (specifically Colchester United who the Company sponsored).

I wrote the words to this (originally to the Dolly Parton tune 'Nine to Five') whilst sitting in a long traffic jam on the M25 on my way to a day's fishing, and phoned home (hands-free, of course!) and sang it from the car to my answerphone.

My wife thought I'd finally cracked.
